Twitter reprimanded Infowars founder Alex Jones Tuesday over a tweet reportedly sharing a video in which he implores his supporters to arm themselves with their “battle rifles” as they push back against what he described as the mainstream media’s deception.
The social media giant has limited Jones’ access to his account for seven days, banning him from tweeting but still allowing him to scroll through his feed and respond to direct messages once he deleted the offending missive. A spokesperson, however, shied away from the term “suspension” in a statement to the Washington Examiner.

Alex Jones has been suspended by Twitter for 7 days for a video talking about social media censorship. Truly, monumentally, beyond stupid. ?
On the same day that the Infowars website was brought down by a cyber attack.

Twitter last week displayed reticence toward punishing Jones, a well-known conspiracy theorist, while Facebook, YouTube, and Apple banned him and Infowars for violating their codes of conduct, particularly as they pertain to hate speech.
Twitter would not confirm the content that triggered disciplinary action, but it occurred shortly after a video, captured by Media Matters, disappeared from Jones’ account.
“People need to have their battle rifles and everything ready at their bedsides, and you got to be ready because the media is so disciplined in their deception,” he said.
