In the past 24 hours, more evidence of former Guantanamo detainees rejoining their terrorist friends has resurfaced. Saudi Arabia released a list of 85 most wanted terrorists. The list includes 11 former Guantanamo detainees who were placed in Saudi Arabia’s rehabilitation program, but the rehab did not take. According to the New York Times, the list also includes an al Qaeda terrorist who is operating a network of more than 100 Saudis on Iranian soil. This terrorist is reportedly the head of al Qaeda’s operations inside the Gulf and responsible for attacks inside Saudi Arabia. In related news, the British claim that a former Guantanamo inmate has gone to join the Taliban’s high command:
I have searched the U.S. government’s unclassified files and not found any former detainees with a name similar to Mullah Abdul Kayum Sakir. It is possible that this Taliban member was known by another name while in custody and changed it upon release. It is also possible that the Brits got his identification wrong. I’ll post more information on him should corroborating details emerge.
