Virginia gets $2.2 million to repair Irene, Lee road damage

Virginia will receive nearly $2.2 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation to help rebuild roads and bridges damaged by Tropical Storms Irene and Lee.

The Federal Highway Administration will dole out $215 million in emergency relief funds to 34 states and Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and federal lands agencies to reimburse for repairs caused needed after natural disasters.

“Communities suffering from disasters have been hard at work restoring vital transportation links so that people can resume daily activities as soon as possible,” Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said in a statement. “They did their part, and now it’s our turn to give the states the money they were promised to help pay for that work.”
