Top 10 Baltimore corps: Under Armour salutes sponsored athletes

As the Beijing Olympics conclude, Baltimore-based Under Armour acknowledged the achievements of its sponsored female athletes.

The performance apparel maker sponsored, among others, Heather Mitts, member of the gold-medal-winning U.S. women’s soccer team, Lovieanne Jung, Caitlin Lowe and Cat Osterman of the silver-medal-winning U.S. softball team, and Kim Glass and Stacy Sykora of the U.S. women’s volleyball team.

“Everyone at Under Armour feels honored to be a part of the achievements of these world-class athletes,” Tori Hanna, Under Armour, director of women’s sports marketing, said in a statement. “We’re passionate about helping athletes perform their best when they’re competing, and we take great pride in their belief and trust in the benefits of our products.”

Lockheed Martin’s human alerting and interruption logistics-surface ship  successfully transitioned from laboratory to platform as a component of the newly commissioned USS Sterett DDG 104.

HAIL-SS increases a U.S. Navy war fighter’s ability to handle high rates of alerts and interruptions without distraction, mediating between human users and various mechanisms that generate alerts in complex systems.

The system reduces rates of alerts and leverages a human’s ability to manage quick shifts in attention.

Verizon employees donate items to Maryland schools

Verizon employees from 27 work sites across Maryland and Washington, D.C., collected nearly $32,000 worth of items to donate to local schools and nonprofit organizations throughout the region during a recent Tools for School drive.

Verizon employees from 372 locations throughout the country took part in the two-week campaign to collect new pens and pencils, rulers, crayons, backpacks and other items children need to start the school year. In all, employees donated an estimated $300,000 worth of supplies to more than 300 schools and nonprofits across the country.
