Teacher who allegedly offered to pay coronavirus patients to ‘cough on Trump’ resigns

A teacher in Rhode Island who is accused of tweeting that she would pay someone with the coronavirus to cough on President Trump has resigned.

The Woonsocket School Committee voted 5-0 Wednesday night to accept a settlement agreement with Amy Bednarz, local TV station WJAR reported. Part of the settlement agreement included Bednarz agreeing to tender her resignation.

The middle school teacher allegedly sent a tweet in March saying, “Somebody with Covid-19, I will pay you to cough on #Trump.”

Bednarz was placed on administrative leave once the school district learned of the social media post.

The Rhode Island education commissioner said Bednarz’s comments were “not representative of the overwhelming majority of Rhode Island teachers.”
