“Veep” star Julia Louis-Dreyfus used her Emmys acceptance speech to “personally apologize for the current political climate.”
The actress stars as Vice President Selina Meyer, and the show pokes fun at some of the more colorful personalities who run the executive branch.
“I think that ‘Veep’ has torn down the wall between comedy and politics,” Louis-Dreyfus deadpanned. “Our show started out as a political satire, but it now feels more like a sobering documentary.”
She also took a pretty direct shot at Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, who has promised to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border if elected.
“I do certainly promise to rebuild that wall and make Mexico pay for it,” she joked.
