Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price declined to promise there will not be cuts to Medicare in the near future.
“We believe in the guarantee of Medicare for our seniors,” said Price on CBS’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday.
Price said that while the administration believes in guaranteeing coverage for seniors, there are challenges to that.
“The challenge that we have is that Medicare is going broke,” he said. “Within a 10-year period of time, we won’t have the money in Medicare to pay the benefits to seniors in this country that have been promised to them.”
President Trump campaigned on a pledge not to touch Medicare or Medicaid, but entitlement cuts have been a longtime goal of Republicans in Congress.
