President Trump denied that special counsel Robert Mueller was ever close to being fired.
“I was NOT going to fire Bob Mueller, and did not fire Bob Mueller,” Trump tweeted Saturday. “In fact, he was allowed to finish his Report with unprecedented help from the Trump Administration.”
I was NOT going to fire Bob Mueller, and did not fire Bob Mueller. In fact, he was allowed to finish his Report with unprecedented help from the Trump Administration. Actually, lawyer Don McGahn had a much better chance of being fired than Mueller. Never a big fan!

It was former White House counsel Don McGahn, he said, that was in danger of losing his job.
“Actually, lawyer Don McGahn had a much better chance of being fired than Mueller. Never a big fan!” he wrote.
Trump’s comments come amid allegations McGahn refused to fire Mueller, who oversaw the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, on the order of the president and that McGahn refused to deny Trump ordered him to do so, which Trump has publicly denied. McGahn also reportedly refused to say publicly the president did not attempt to obstruct justice.
McGahn left the administration last year.
