Saturday: Clarendon Day
This weekend marks the 15th Annual Clarendon Day, which celebrates one of Arlington’s hippest neighborhoods.
Clarendon sure has come a long way.
“It was nothing like it is now,” said Matt Hussmann, executive director of the Clarendon Alliance.
Hussmann credits Metro’s Orange Line as key to Clarendon’s and adjoining neighborhood’s growth. But he also credits local leadership for Clarendon’s appeal.
“It’s only genius if you can make it work,” Hussmann said.
Clarendon Day was originally founded as, and still is, a way to support local businesses, bring people in to showcase the neighborhood and unite the community. This year features a number of bands on two stages, craft beer, food from local restaurants, more exhibitors than last year and plenty of activities for the kids.
“People appreciate the tradition of Clarendon Day,” Hussmann said. “A lot of things we keep doing because people like it.”

Friday and Saturday: ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ at E Street Cinema
For the next three weekends, E Street presents the Indiana Jones trilogy (the three good films from the ’80s). This weekend its “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” followed by “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” and “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” in subsequent weeks.

Saturday and Sunday: National Book Festival on the National Mall
Well-known authors and newsmakers populate the annual National Book Festival. Thomas Friedman, Jewel, R.L. Stine and Jeffrey Toobin are just a few of the dozens of folks making appearances.

Saturday and Sunday: Das Best Oktoberfest at National Harbor
Does it seem like National Harbor has some sort of beer, wine or food festival every weekend? Who’s complaining? National Harbor kicks of the first day of Oktoberfest with its Das Best Oktoberfest. Enjoy music, food and lots of beer. Cheers!

Sunday: Arrested Development at the Howard Theatre
Arrested Development — the iconic hip hop group out of Atlanta, not the iconic sitcom — continues to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Best known for the songs “Mr. Wendal,” “People Everyday” and “Tennessee,” Arrested Development is still contributing its contemplative music to the hip hop canon.
