President Donald Trump said he discussed the use of the word England with United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson while speaking a press conference on Monday morning.
World leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the U.S., and top officials from the European Union, have gathered in Biarritz, France for the 2019 G-7 summit.
Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron held a press conference Monday morning to address the recent dialogue among the world leaders. They each took a couple questions from reporters. After a couple questions, Macron left and Trump stayed. The president proceeded to take more questions from reporters, but Macron’s exit was planned.
At the time of Trump’s rift, he was asked a question about how he would prioritize his relationships with the European Union and the United Kingdom when it comes to trade deals.
“We have been with, I guess I would start out by saying England, right, you know I asked Boris, where’s England? What is happening with England, they don’t use it too much anymore, we talked about it. It was very interesting. But the United Kingdom is a great, incredible place, it’s an incredible nation, and it has been one of our tremendous allies and another one happens to be Australia,” the president stated.
