President Trump called the intelligence community whistleblower who accused him of making a problematic “promise” with a foreign leader “partisan” after admitting that he didn’t know who came forward.
Earlier this week, it was reported that the whistleblower who filed a complaint about the president did so as a result of a “promise” Trump made to an unknown foreign leader. While details of the conversation remain unknown, additional reporting by The Washington Post claims that the conversation in question relates to Ukraine.
Trump, after tweeting about the story Thursday morning, addressed it in front of reporters at the White House Friday morning where he was set to host Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
“It’s a partisan whistleblower. Shouldn’t even have information. I have had conversations with many leaders. They’re always appropriate,” Trump began and called it a “political hack job.”
He later added, “I don’t know the identity of the whistleblower, I just hear it’s a partisan person, meaning it comes out from another party. But I don’t have any idea.”
Intelligence Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson determined the complaint to be “credible and urgent,” which forced him to notify congressional oversight committees of it. He appeared in front of the House Intelligence Committee on Thursday.
