President-elect Trump’s superior negotiating skills are going to guarantee healthcare for everyone at an affordable price, incoming White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Monday.
In a story published Sunday night, Trump said he is close to releasing his replacement for the Affordable Care Act and that it’s going to be far superior to the current system. Trump promised it would cost less and cover more people.
Spicer believes it can work because Trump can bring companies to the table to negotiate.
“What you see from Donald Trump is him using his successful business acumen,” Spicer said on Fox News. “He knows how to negotiate great deals. He’s going to bring people like the pharmaceutical companies to the table.”
Trump’s comments will likely rile lawmakers on both sides of the aisle. Democrats held rallies around the country this weekend to fight for Obamacare, while Republicans have wanted the government to be less involved in the American health insurance industry, not more involved.
Spicer said Trump feels healthcare is the most important thing to tackle and it will be his top agenda item after taking office. His plan is to make a deal for the people.
“The idea that he can use his business skills and negotiating skills to bring business people to the table is something that has been sorely lacking the last eight years,” he said.
Spicer added those negotiating tactics include not taking any options off the table, including the One China policy that has been the bedrock of American-Chinese relations for almost 40 years.
Over the weekend, the Chinese government sent a message to Trump that the policy, which recognizes the People’s Republic of China as the only rightful government of China and Taiwan as a renegade province, is non-negotiable. Trump feels otherwise.
“He is a great negotiator and a great business man and he’s going to go into every situation of keeping all options on the table,” Spicer said. “He understands the importance of the One China policy right now.”
