CHICAGO (AP) — A Chicago museum dedicated to veterans is celebrating its grand re-opening to coincide with Veterans Day commemorations.
The National Veterans Art Museum will unveil its latest exhibit on Sunday. It’s called “Welcome Home” and is part of a series that examines the ongoing war in Afghanistan and the rising need for mental health care for returning veterans. The museum has more than 2,500 works of art created by veterans.
Other museums across Illinois are also paying attention to veterans’ issues.
The Bethalto Historical Museum in southwestern Illinois hosted an open house Saturday where veterans spoke of their war experiences.
The James Stockdale Center at a VFW Post in Galesburg has grown and is working on plans to expand even more.
