Facebook wants to crack down on terrorist content

A top official at Facebook pledged to “aggressively remove” terrorist content after British Prime Minister Theresa May called for stricter Internet regulations after a terror attack in London.

Facebook wants to “provide a service where people feel safe,” according to a statement from director of policy Simon Milner posted on Yahoo News. “That means we do not allow groups or people to engage in terrorist activity, or posts that express support for terrorism. We want Facebook to be a hostile environment for terrorists.”

The comments come after May called for tighter Internet regulations to stop terrorists from having a platform to recruit new members or plan attacks.

“We cannot allow this ideology the safe space it needs to breed,” May said. “Yet that is precisely what the Internet and the big companies that provide Internet-based services provide.”

May’s comments came a day after another terror attack struck England. This time a van struck several pedestrians on London Bridge and three terrorists then stabbed several people in an area near the bridge.

Police shot and killed the three suspects responsible for the attack that left seven dead and 48 wounded.

The attack took place only two weeks after an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England, was bombed, leaving 22 people dead.
