President Joe Biden tried to differentiate between his criticism of former President Donald Trump and Trump allies and the millions of people who voted for the 45th president in 2016 and 2020.
“I don’t consider any Trump supporter to be a threat. I do think anyone who calls for the use of violence and fails to condemn violence when it’s used, refuse to acknowledge an election has been won … that is a threat to democracy,” Biden told reporters Friday.

Biden was pressed on whether he considered Trump supporters to be a threat to the country at the conclusion of a White House event promoting the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan.
“I am not talking about anything other than … a failure to recognize or condemn violence whenever it’s used for political purposes, failure to condemn the attempt to manipulate electoral outcome, failure to acknowledge when elections are won or lost,” he said.
Biden has been needled on the issue after last week alluding to Trump’s MAGA political philosophy as “semi-fascism.”
“Not every Republican embraces extreme ideology,” Biden added Thursday night in Philadelphia. “But there’s no question that the Republican Party today is dominated, driven, and intimidated by Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans.”

“MAGA Republicans do not respect the Constitution,” he said during his prime-time address. “They do not believe in the rule of law. They do not recognize the will of the people. They refuse to accept the results of a free election.”
