D.C. police are looking for a prisoner who escaped from a jail wagon Monday morning.
James D. Bell, 34, was being transported from the Fifth District station, 1805 Bladensburg Road, to the Central Cell Block, at 300 Indiana Ave. NW, when he kicked open the backdoor of the transport vehicle and jumped out at the 1300 block of Maryland Avenue NE.
Bell’s escape comes at a time when the U.S. Attorney’s Office is investigating last month’s escape of two prisoners from the D.C. Jail and the role of at least oneprison guard.
Bell is a 6-foot-1, 150-pound black man with braided hair. He has a tombstone tattoo with the letters “RIP” on his upper right arm and a heart tattoo with the word “TANYA” on his upper left arm. He was last seen wearing a black jumpsuit. He has no known home address.
Bell had been arrested during the weekend for allegedly setting two cars on fire near the 1800 block of L Street at about 3:30 a.m. Friday.
Anyone with information about Bell or his whereabouts should call police at 202-727-9099.
