DETROIT (AP) — Michigan utilities say high winds have knocked out power to about 23,000 homes and businesses, with more outages expected as the effects of the Eastern Seaboard’s severe weather pushes through the state.
DTE Energy Co. says gusts of 50 mph could affect its 2.1 million customers. Spokesman Scott Simons says about 22,000 customers were out at 8 p.m. Monday, and that’s expected to keep rising.
Detroit-based DTE has released 100 contract line workers to assist utilities along the eastern U.S.
CMS Energy Corp.’s Consumers Energy unit reports 1,200 of its 1.8 million Michigan customers were out about 8 p.m. It says crews are in place ready for whatever comes, while more than a dozen employees and 120 contract employees have been released to assist in the eastern U.S.
