‘It’s God’s treehouse’: Largest treehouse in the world burns to the ground

The largest treehouse in the world, a 10-story structure located in eastern Tennessee, burned down despite efforts to extinguish the blaze.

The structure, which stood at over 90 feet tall, caught fire late Tuesday night and was consumed within 15 minutes. Firefighters used 1,100 gallons of water in their failed attempts to put it out.

The treehouse was famous, not only for its record size, but because its maker Pastor Horace Burgess claimed God told him to build it in a vision.

“It’s God’s treehouse,” he said in 2013. He said he started building the treehouse in the 1990s after being commanded to by God.

The treehouse was a tourist attraction for years until the state’s fire marshal labeled the structure a fire hazard in 2012.

No injuries were reported from the fire, and an investigation into its cause has begun.
