President Trump said he might conduct a press conference on Thursday to address publication of the long-awaited Mueller report.
In an interview with Larry O’Connor on WMAL radio, Trump confirmed Attorney General William Barr would address reporters before teasing the idea of a rare presidential press conference.
“You’ll see a lot of very strong things come out tomorrow,” said Trump.
“Attorney General Barr is going to be giving a press conference. Maybe I’ll do one after that. We’ll see.”
Washington is primed for the Justice Department to release the 400 pages of a redacted version of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on Russian election interference and the Trump campaign.
Barr released a four-page summary of the investigation’s conclusions last month, which said Mueller did not establish the Trump campaign colluded with Russia in the 2016 presidential campaign and had not concluded Trump had obstructed justice during the investigation but said Mueller also did not exonerate the president.
Trump has repeatedly dismissed the Russia investigation as a “witch hunt” and praised his attorney general’s handling of the issue. In the interview, he signaled he was ready to celebrate a significant victory over his critics and investigators.
“He has been a fantastic attorney general. He’s grabbed it by the horn,” Trump said. “What’s happened is unthinkable.”
“This should never happen to a president or to our country again.”
And he said he was ready to be vindicated.
“I hope I’m going to be able to put this down as one of my great achievements, actually,” he said.
