Liberals both on social media and television insisted that former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin being convicted on all counts did not qualify as “justice,” with some suggesting he deserved an even harsher punishment.
On MSNBC, political contributor Jason Johnson said that the guilty verdicts for Chauvin announced on Tuesday related to the death of George Floyd was not an example of the “system working,” and he was not satisfied.
MSNBC’s Jason Johnson is FURIOUS with the verdict, calling it “a cultural make-up call”: “I’m not happy. I’m not pleased. I don’t have any sense of satisfaction. I don’t think this is the system working…This is the justice system trying to say, hey, this is one bad apple.” pic.twitter.com/W3JLcujpfd

“Twitter stays arguing about the semantics,” sports journalist Cari Champion tweeted. “I don’t care what y’all say- GEORGE FLOYD WAS MURDERED. Derek Chavin [sic] should be under the jail. These two things are true in this instance.”

Former United States Attorney General Eric Holder took to social media to agree with the sentiment that the guilty verdicts were “not enough.”
With this verdict we have a moment, an opportunity. But it is not enough. There are still hard questions to be asked, tough truths to be faced. We need a movement now for reform and positive change so that justice becomes commonplace and fair, humane treatment color blind.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez went on Instagram Live after the verdict and told her millions of followers that the verdict was not “justice” because true justice would mean that George Floyd was still alive.
