Acclaimed actor Jeff Bridges expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support he has experienced since announcing his lymphoma diagnosis.
Bridges, 70, announced that he is battling cancer earlier this month and on Thursday posted a photo of himself on Instagram. Bridges is seen in the picture wearing a hospital gown and hooked up to an IV machine. He added the caption, “I want to thank you all for reaching out during this time, it feels good getting all the well wishes and love!”
His website, where the Crazy Heart star said he will be providing future updates, featured a handwritten message to fans about how he is feeling.
“This cancer thing is bringing on feelings of preciousness, and gratitude, and good old fashion love, and lots of it, big time,” Bridges said. “I’m feeling so much of it comin’ my way, and man, I appreciate it. It’s contagious, all this love, like some kind of positive virus.”
“This cancer is making me appreciate my mortality, appreciate impermanence. I’m realizing if I have s— to share, now’s the time,” he added. “If you’re into it, I’ll be sharing my perspectives on this site. I’m looking to be in partnership with you guys in creating a beautiful life and wonderful world for all of us.”
Bridges announced his cancer diagnosis over Twitter by alluding to the 1998 cult classic The Big Lebowski, in which he plays “The Dude,” a bowling enthusiast with a penchant for tossing back White Russians.
“As the Dude would say.. New S**T has come to light,” he said. “I have been diagnosed with Lymphoma. Although it is a serious disease, I feel fortunate that I have a great team of doctors and the prognosis is good. I’m starting treatment and will keep you posted on my recovery.”
He also used the platform to urge people to vote.
I’m profoundly grateful for the love and support from my family and friends.
Thank you for your prayers and well wishes. And, while I have you, please remember to go vote. Because we are all in this together. https://t.co/6sAU4MYixl
