All northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 295 were shut down at Eastern Avenue Monday afternoon after utility lines fell onto the highway.
A car accident caused the lines to fall just north of Eastern Ave NE onto the highway, according to the D.C. Department of Transportation. All lanes were closed by about 2:40 p.m. Pepco workers responded to the scene in case the wires were electrical, but the lines were in fact utilities for cable television. After wires were cleared, and DDOT officials reopened all northbound and southbound lanes to traffic at about 4 p.m.
