Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelensky denied that he was pressured by President Trump to get involved in American politics.
“I think you read everything. So I think you read texts. I’m sorry, but I don’t want to be involved [with] elections of USA,” Zelensky told reporters Wednesday at the United Nations regarding whether he felt Trump pressured him to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden.
He went on to say the phone call was “good” and “normal” but did not want reporters to push any more questions on him about the subject.
“There was no pressure,” Trump added.
The question came the same day the White House released a transcript of the call between Trump and Zelensky. House Democrats on Tuesday opened an impeachment inquiry against the president over what they said could be a quid pro quo agreement between Trump and Zelensky.
The Trump administration said they wanted Ukraine to investigate whether Joe Biden asked for Ukraine’s top prosecutor to be fired because of his investigation into the business dealings of his son, Hunter.
