Workers at a Florida manufacturing plant were recently warned that a Joe Biden victory could translate into permanent layoffs at their company.
Daniels Manufacturing Corporation, located in Orlando, Florida, makes tools for aircraft industries and employs roughly 170 workers who recently received a letter with their paycheck that, in part, stated, “If Biden and the Democrats win, DMC could be forced to begin permanent layoffs beginning in late 2020 and/or early 2021.”
The letter also stated that if Trump is reelected, the company would be able to “operate, more or less, as it has been operating recently.”
The company was contacted and asked what specifically about a Biden administration would force permanent layoffs. It did not respond.
DMC’s president, George Daniels, is a Republican donor and has made over $600,000 in contributions to the GOP this election cycle, according to the Federal Election Commission. Of that amount, roughly $140,000 went to President Trump’s reelection bid.
An FEC spokesperson refused to say if the warning regarding layoffs amounts to voter intimidation since it might become a court case that the organization would have to weigh in on.
Local news station WESH2 attempted to speak with employees, but most refused.
However, one employee, Stan Smith, spoke to the news outlet and said that the letter has prompted him to consider quitting his job.
“I don’t feel like it was correct to do something like that,” he told the news station.
