Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said he does not know how anyone can believe in the God portrayed in the Bible.
“I don’t know how you can believe in a God who wants to condemn most of the planet to a fiery hell,” Rodgers said while being interviewed by his girlfriend, Danica Patrick, on her podcast this week.
Rodgers explained that when he was younger, his parents made him go to church but eventually fell out of traditional Christianity.
“Some people just need structure, and they need tradition and stuff,” he said of practicing Christians. “I don’t have a problem with it. It doesn’t resonate with me.”
The star football player has spoken openly about his relationship with his family members, some of whom he is estranged from.
Citing anonymous sources, People reported some of Rodgers’ family members saw the comments as “a slap in the face.”
