White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow said Friday the U.S. and China are still trying to negotiate a way out of their months-long trade war, even as the Trump administration is considering new tariffs against China that could be announced as early as today.
“China has been really unsatisfactory on our asks … but we’re still talking,” Kudlow told Bloomberg.

The U.S. is considering a new 25 percent tariff on as much as $200 billion worth of Chinese goods, and leaked reports to the media have said that decision could be finalized today. The White House has not shot those rumors down, and Kudlow had no comment on timing.
“I don’t want to get ahead of the curve,” he said when asked about when the decision might be announced.
A decision is expected soon, however, as the public comment period on the proposed escalation has ended. “We will evaluate the comments and make a decision,” he said.
The U.S. already has tariffs on $50 billion worth of imports from China, which prompted China to retaliate with its own tariffs on U.S. goods.
