Howard residents are welcome to participate with the county police department in the eighth annual National Police Challenge 50K race.
The event benefits the organization Concerns Of Police Survivors which assists surviving families of fallen officers.
The race, which begins at 8:15 a.m. May 11, is a relay competition, hosted by the U.S. Secret Service and attended by law enforcement nationwide. Each participant runs a 5K leg of the relay and receives a T-shirt, free breakfast and lunch, and assorted giveaways.
In the past seven years, this event has generated $280,000.
