A pro-Donald Trump CNN political commentator mistook a Jay-Z lyric for a Hebrew congratulation during an appearance on CNN Sunday night.
A CNN panel was discussing a Trump rally where he blasted his opponent, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, for appearing with Jay-Z and Beyonce at one of her recent events.
“We get more people at our rallies than Hillary gets at her rallies with Beyonce and [Jennifer Lopez] and Jay-Z and Jon Bon Jovi,” Trump bragged as his crowd roared.
“And Jay-Z and Beyonce use the most filthy language you’ve ever heard,” he continued. “They use words that nobody would use. And she comes out, ‘Oh thank you so much,’ hugging and kissing. But to the public, she says,’ Oh well, Donald Trump is lewd.’ Give me a break.”
After CNN political commentator Angela Rye tried to explain that Trump’s words were really a manifestation of his bruised ego, pro-Trump commentatro Scottie Nell Hughes chimed in with her own take on his feelings about Beyonce and Jay-Z’s lyrics.
“As an evangelical Christian, I can actually say I think he was more bothered by the multiple uses of the M-F-word that night and the N-word that was used, within the lyrics in the songs,” she said.
“And I think also when you look at Jay-Z, and we talked about this that night. That, it might be working but one of his main videos starts off with a crowd throwing Mazel Tov cocktails at the police and this very much anti-police message that Beyonce has had this year.”
“Molotov cocktail,” Don Lemon quickly corrected her, as the panel started to laugh.
“That’s my Jewish side coming out,” Hughes said, also laughing.
Mazel Tov is a Hebrew expression usually used to congratulate someone on an accomplishment, while a molotov cocktail is a bottle full of flammable liquid used as a weapon.
Hughes might have been referring to the Jay-Z song “Threat,” which contains the lyrics, “I’ll throw a molotov cocktail through your momma’s house.”
