Michelle Williams is ready to be open and candid about her grief over Heath Ledger’s January death.
“It’s so sad,” the actress confessed after breaking out in tears when a Newsweek interviewer brought up her former fiance. “I just wake up each day in a slightly different place. Grief is like a moving river.”
“I’m at heart an optimistic person, but I would say in some ways it just gets worse,” the mom of Heath’s daughter Matilda, 3, confesses. “It’s just that the more time that passes, the more you miss someone. In some ways it gets worse.”
Hopefully Michelle can find some comfort in her daughter, and in the arms of new director beau Spike Jonze. The “Synecdoche, New York” actress says she will take a year-long break from acting to focus on parenting. No doubt that will also give her the breathing room to focus on healing herself.
KANYE’S DAY
Kanye West and Chris Brown came away big winners at Sunday’s American Music Awards.
West picked up his first AMA while also delivering a stirring performance of his new single, “Heartless.”
West collected trophies for favorite male rap/hip-hop artist and favorite rap/hip-hop album for his CD “Graduation.”
“I’d like to thank everyone who accepted me trying to break new boundaries in music,” West said. “It’s our responsibility as musicians to keep pushing each other. … We will be the new Beatles, the new [Jimi] Hendrix. I want to be Elvis.”
Brown won three awards, including artist of the year honors.
“I would’ve gave it to Coldplay,” the 19-year-old said of the night’s big prize. “I’m at a loss for words.”
Besides West, other double winners included Rihanna and Alicia Keys.
Guy: Madge Payout?
Although they came to a quickie agreement on a preliminary divorce settlement, Madonna and Guy Ritchie still have some financial matters to sort out.
The director walked away without a chunk of his ex’s megamillions, insisting the kids were more important to him than money. But Guy may still get about $15,000 a month in child support for two sons Rocco and David, U.K. legal eagles tell the New York Daily News, even under equal joint custody terms.
Sources tell the paper, however, that Madonna is just grateful to have extricated herself from the marriage with ease, and will most likely fork over the money without a fight. Well, we all know she’s a savvy businesswoman — that’s a small price to pay for avoiding a prolonged dispute over custody terms.
