Remember those buses last December that were side-slapped with slogans like “Why believe in god? Just be good for goodness sake”? Well, the British Humanist Association has decided to start something similar across the pond. The new ad campaign, funded by the association, has won the support of prominent atheist Richard Dawkins, who muses like so:
One of the new slogans reads: “There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.” I wonder what compelled the Brits to keep God a captial-g god? Respect for titles? (Note that the Americans were content to cast that “g” into the humble lowercase.) Also: Is it just me or do these slogans remind you of Jenny Holzer’s preachy art? Over at getreligion.com, Douglas LeBlanc points out that guardian.co.uk has launched an online challenge to its readers to draft new slogans for the bendy buses, as they’re called.
