While celebrating his 72nd birthday, O.J. Simpson posted a video to his Twitter page , in which he played golf while weighing in on his life and the Betsy Ross flag.
Simpson appeared on a golf course in Las Vegas, holding a club and clad in golf attire. The former sports star and convicted felon declared that he was celebrating his “33rd annual 39th birthday” and gave a short monologue that briefly waded into Nike’s decision to pull a sneaker design adorned with the Betsy Ross flag because former quarterback Colin Kaepernick complained about it.
“Lately I saw what Kaepernick pointed out that the Betsy Ross flag was being used by some negative groups as their symbol. Well, I say don’t let the negative win. As far as I’m concerned, that flag represents the birth of America,” Simpson said.
He also touched on his life generally, which was notoriously marked by his 1995 acquittal for the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman. He later spent nine years in prison for felony armed robbery and kidnapping charges before being released in 2017.
“I got to tell you, it’s been quite a ride,” Simpson said. “I’ve had some hurricanes descend in my life, but I thank the Lord because through it all, He’s kept me relatively healthy and in good spirits and positive.”

“I got some guys to beat and some cake to eat, take care,” he said before closing out the video.
Simpson joined the social media network in June, 25 years and two days after Nicole Brown and Rod Goldman were brutally murdered. In his first post, he said of joining Twitter, “I’ve got a little getting even to do. So God bless. Take care.”
