Update: 5:30 p.m.
Metro says the person struck by an Orange Line train at Clarendon station appears to be conscious but stuck under the first rail car.
Video footage shows the person apparently got into the train’s path intentionally, Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said, but authorities are still investigating whether it was a suicide attempt.
For all other riders, the incident means major delays. Rescuers need access to both tracks to reach the person, Stessel said, so all train service has been suspended between Rosslyn and Ballston stations.
The transit system is setting up free bus shuttle service to connect riders.
A rider on the train that struck the man reports that riders have been calm on the stalled train but that power was just cut off in the train, leaving them in a dark, increasingly hot train.

Metrorail service on the Orange and Blue lines was delayed in the height of the evening commute Tuesday after a person was struck by a train near the Clarendon stop.
Metro received the report about 4:55 p.m., according to Metro spokesman Dan Stessel.
Arlington emergency responders said emergency medical crews were dispatched to help a person trapped under a train.
The transit agency said riders should expect delays on both the Orange and Blue lines. Blue Line riders should consider taking the Yellow Line at L’Enfant Plaza to avoid the mess, Stessel said.
