Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz likened Carly Fiorina’s past criticism of him to George H.W.’s Bush’s blistering attack on Ronald Reagan’s economic policy, which came before Bush became Reagan’s running mate.
“Carly said you were a typical politician a few months ago,” “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace said to Cruz.
“She was a competitor, a vigorous competitor,” Cruz countered. “And when that’s happening, people fire shots at each other.”
“We all remember when Reagan named George Herbert Walker Bush and they immediately had to explain why Bush had called Reaganomics ‘Voodoo Economics,'” Cruz said.
Cruz also tried to tie Trump to former House Speaker John Boehner and Hillary Clinton.
“John Boehner and Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are all Washington insiders,” Cruz said. “It’s the same corrupt Washington game.”
He said that Boehner, who recenlty called Cruz “Lucifer” and “a miserable son of a bitch,” is still mad at him for refusing to go along with deals in Washington.
Cruz also brushed aside claims that Indiana will prove the end of his campaign and that Trump could win the nomination on the first ballot.
“Regardless of what happens in Indiana, Donald Trump is not getting to 1,237,” Cruz said. “No one’s getting to 1,237. We’re headed to a contested convention.”
“If you can’t win a majority … it means you can’t unite the party and you can’t win,” Cruz finished.
