Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump hopes to raise more than $1 billion through the November election, according to an interview with NBC News Wednesday.
The New York businessman told Nightly News host Lester Holt he hopes to partner with the Republican National Committee to raise support for a general election match-up against Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton.
But Trump said he was not sure he would need heavy financial backing because of the amount of free press he has received through the primary season.
“I’m not even sure that’s necessary because I have a big voice. I go on shows like yours,” Trump told Holt.
The outspoken GOP candidate said he is weighing how to handle Clinton over the summer and fall months.
“I’ll see what they do with me. If they’re fair, I’ll be fair,” Trump said. “I’d like to see a very high level policy-oriented campaign.”
Trump became the de facto Republican nominee Wednesday after Ohio Gov. John Kasich ended his campaign earlier in the day and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz dropped out of the race after his Tuesday primary loss in Indiana.
