Gov. Bob McDonnell has put his signature on a bill that will extend the deadline for victims of sexual abuse to file lawsuits.
The measure will give victims up to 20 years to file a lawsuit. The current deadline for filing such actions is two years. The new law will take effect July 1.
The time limit will be extended to 20 years from the date of abuse, the date the person turns 18, or the date on which they remember the incident if they have repressed the memory.
