Nancy Pelosi calls Harvey Weinstein reports ‘shocking’ and ‘despicable’

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday condemned actions by former Hollywood producer and studio executive Harvey Weinstein in the wake sexual harassment and rape accusations against him, calling them “despicable” and shocking.”

“The news of Harvey Weinstein’s countless assaults on women and the clear efforts to intimidate his victims into silence are shocking. His despicable actions violate every standard of acceptable behavior,” she said in a statement. “Every man who disrespects and attacks women must be held accountable.”

According to a report, Pelosi may have her own story about Weinstein’s attempts to intimidate. Weinstein in 2008 threatened then-Speaker Pelosi that he would withhold money from Democrats unless the convention votes of pro-Hillary Clinton states were restored after those states were docked for holding early primaries, CNN reported at the time.
