Former RNC chair: Conservative media are the worst critics of the Right

Former Republican National Committee chairman and Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour maintained in an interview on MSNBC Thursday that right-wing media tends to be harsher on conservatives than any group in the so-called main stream media.

The word “establishment,” he explained, has become a catchall term in conservative media meaning “whoever you don’t like.”

He mused that the constant drumbeat of bad press in conservative media for Republicans in Washington, D.C., is a recent development, and he added that it has only gotten worse.

“The biggest critics of Republicans and conservatives has become the conservative media, has become Fox News, talk radio, Breitbart, bloggers, and go down the list” he said. “They are the ones who are the harshest critics of conservatives.”

His remarks came as he offered his thoughts on the rise of billionaire businessman Donald Trump.

“He clearly has to broaden his support,” Barbour said, adding that Trump’s support in the general election is still pretty limited.
