A U.S. Army captain from Alexandria has admitted that she fraudulently received more than $68,000 by submitting false housing and travel claims.
Lisa A. Dean, 38, pleaded guilty in federal court in Alexandria on Thursday to two counts of making a false claim against the United States.
Prosecutors said she submitted false housing allowance forms that claimed her dependent mother lived in San Fransisco rather than Arizona, where housing costs are lower, while Dean was stationed in Germany. Dean received $58,167 between August 2006 and September 2011 as a result of the fraudulent claims.
She also received $10,222 from a false travel voucher that claimed she moved her mother from San Fransisco to Alexandria, prosecutors said.
Dean could face up to 10 years in prison when she is sentenced Feb. 17.
