‘I am NOT running for President’: CNBC confuses Andrew Yang with Asian businessman Geoff Yang

Only weeks ahead of the Feb. 3 Iowa caucuses, CNBC displayed a fundraising graphic on its morning show Squawk Box which mixed-up presidential candidate Andrew Yang with Asian businessman Geoff Yang.

The graphic also confused Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, a former candidate for president, with Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, who is still in the race.

This isn’t the first time Yang, who has complained about unfair coverage by media outlets, has been part of a mix-up regarding his identity.

At the 6th Democratic debate in December, moderator Judy Woodruff repeatedly referred to candidate Tom Steyer as Andrew Yang during one sequence. Yang clapped his hands and exclaimed, ‘I’m over here!’

Redpoint Ventures partner Geoff Yang confirmed on Twitter that the picture CNBC published was a photo of himself. “Ummm,” tweeted Yang. “This is @geoff_yang and I am NOT running for President.”

Yang is polling at 2.5% and Gabbard at 2% in the latest Iowa polling, according to RealClearPolitics.
