Clinton spokesman: We ‘adamantly oppose’ decision to withhold 22 emails

A spokesman for Hillary Clinton’s campaign said Friday the State Department’s decision to withhold 22 emails that were deemed “top secret” was an example of “overclassification run amok.”

Brian Fallon, Clinton’s spokesman, has attempted to characterize recent findings from the intelligence community inspector general as Republican-led attacks. The intelligence community watchdog discovered earlier this month that Clinton has transmitted material classified above “top secret.”

He attacked the State Department Friday for its move to shield nearly two dozen emails from release because they contained top secret information. In the past, Fallon has cited the State Department’s findings in his defense of Clinton’s conduct.

The revelations Friday could spell trouble for Clinton ahead of the Iowa caucus next week as speculation about the depth of her legal troubles swirl.
