In an attempt to reach out to younger voters, Hillary Clinton appeared on the popular web show “Between Two Ferns” with comedian Zach Galifianakis, where the two traded barbs about Donald Trump, her outfits and emails.
During the comedic interview, which was released Thursday morning, Clinton said she does not plan to move out of the United States if Trump wins in November as the host made multiple jokes about the real estate mogul being involved in racism.
“Let’s talk about Trump,” Galifianakis said.
“Oh, let’s,” Clinton said.
“When you see how well it works for Donald Trump, do you ever think to yourself, ‘oh, maybe I should be more racist?'” the comedian asked as Clinton shook her head.
The former secretary of state was then asked if she would move to Canada if Trump wins in November, saying that she would fight back to prevent a Trump presidency from destroying the U.S.
“So you’re going to lead the civil war?” he asked.
“No. I wouldn’t take up arms,” Clinton said. “I think that might be a little extreme.”
“Oh, right. Because you were saying before we were rolling that you want to take away everyone’s guns,” the host said. “Very cool. Cool, cool, cool.”
“I really regret doing this,” Clinton responded.
The two then discussed appearance as the host asked Clinton who makes her pantsuits because he wanted to go as a “librarian from outer space” for Halloween.
“I think that would be a good look on you,” Clinton responded before the two discussed debate attire and what she plans to wear then.
“You know, there’s this thing called the double standard, and so I think about what the first woman nominee of one of our two major parties wears to the debate, and I have no idea,” Clinton said, asking the host for suggestions. On the other hand, Galifianakis asked Clinton what she expects Trump to wear.
“I assume he’ll wear that red power tie,” she said.
“Or maybe like a white power tie,” he told Clinton, who said that would be “even more appropriate.”
Toward the end of the nearly 6-minute interview, Galifianakis took a quick break for a “word from our sponsor,” cutting to a 10-second ad by Trump, who says that many politicians are controlled by lobbyists and special interests, before promising to make America great again and approving the message.
“He approves the message,” Galifianakis told Clinton.
“Why would you play a commercial from my opponent in the middle of our interview?” Clinton asked.
“He paid me in steaks,” the comedian responded.
He wrapped up the interview by telling Clinton they should keep in touch, wondering if email would be the best way of doing so. After Clinton gave him a blank stare, he hit a button on the coffee table between them that said “you’ve got mail.”
Clinton reportedly taped the interview with Galifianakis on Sept. 9, the same day she was diagnosed with pneumonia and made her infamous comment that half of Trump’s supporters belong in a “basket of deplorables.”
She is also not the highest profile politician to appear on the web show. President Obama made an appearance in 2014 in an effort to push people to sign up for Healthcare.gov.
