As Wolf Blitzer began his afternoon news program, “The Situation Room,” on Friday a certain chyron, or caption, about Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell caused a bit of a stir on social media.
Transitioning from talking about the U.S.-North Korean standoff, Blitzer teased an upcoming segment on President Trump’s spat with McConnell this week, which began when the Kentucky Republican complained of Trump’s “excessive expectations” for the legislative process.

“And Mitch, please,” Blitzer began, as a chyron appeared on the screen reading the same thing.
Blitzer went on to say that “key” Republican senators are coming out to defend McConnell, but that was lost on several Twitter users who were stuck on the chyron, which alludes to the phrase, “bitch please,” and is also the name of a Snoop Dogg song from 1999 featuring Nate Dogg and Xzibit.
@cnnbrk “Mitch Please” brilliant! Thanks for the smile!

Multiple keen-eyed viewers also noted that one day earlier CNN sported another suggestive chyron which read, “Mitch slapped.” This sparked the hashtag, #mitchslapped.
Yesterday’s McConnell headline on @CNN:
Mitch Slap
Today’s:
