Graham says ‘QAnon shaman’ testifying against Trump would make impeachment trial a ‘circus’

Sen. Lindsey Graham criticized the plans of one of the Capitol rioters who was seen wearing a distinctive set of face paint, fur, and horns.

Jacob Chansley, also known as the “QAnon shaman,” was arrested for his part in the Jan. 6 riot. His attorney, Al Watkins, said Chansley would be willing to testify to Congress that former President Donald Trump incited him to break through law enforcement barriers and raid the Capitol.

Graham, a South Carolina Republican and one of Trump’s biggest Capitol Hill allies, tore into the idea of having Chansley back on the Senate floor for impeachment, arguing that doing so would obliterate the solemnity of the proceedings.

“I cannot think of a better way to turn the upcoming impeachment trial into a complete circus than to call the QAnon Shaman as a witness on anything,” the senator said on Twitter.

Chansley, who is also known as Jake Angeli, was charged with two felonies and four misdemeanors for his alleged wrongdoing. His lawyer also told the judge in his case that he hadn’t eaten since he was taken into custody because he was not being provided organic food.

Graham has opposed Trump’s impeachment and has argued that not only should Chansley not testify, but neither should anyone else.

“The House impeached President Trump without a witness,” Graham said on Twitter. “If we open the witness door in the Senate there will be lots of witnesses requested on a variety of topics. And the trial will go for months, not days.”
