President Trump is “feeling perfect” after finishing his two-week regimen of taking the anti-malarial drug, hydroxychloroquine.
“He said, quote, he’s ‘feeling perfect.’ Quote, he’s ‘feeling absolutely great’ after taking this regimen, and, quote, he ‘would take it again’ if he thought he was exposed,” said White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany at a Thursday briefing. “He’s feeling very good.”
The president underwent a two-week trial of the drug earlier this month to protect against the coronavirus after several staff members within the White House had tested positive for it. He faced pushback after advocating the drug as a preventative measure against COVID-19 despite medical experts providing no evidence of its ability to treat or prevent infections of the virus.
Hydroxychloroquine is often used to treat lupus and rheumatoid disease. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and key member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, said Wednesday, “The scientific data is really quite evident now about the lack of efficacy for” the drug’s treatment against the coronavirus.
