A viral pizza trend on TikTok gained the curiosity of Domino’s Pizza Australia last week, and the company decided to try the recipe out for itself.
The pizza chain posted a video to TikTok in which it tested the watermelon pizza in its own corporate kitchen and was ultimately not a fan of the creation.
The recipe that Domino’s Australia used came from Oliver Paterson, a social media star who posted the video of himself making the bizarre watermelon pizza. Paterson’s video making the fruit-based pizza netted over 3.4 million views, inspiring Domino’s Australia to recreate the fruit, cheese, and meat concoction.
“It turned out so great in the end,” Paterson stated in his video. “And you’ve got to give it a go for yourself.”
THE DNC GAVE MORE TIME TO A TIKTOK CELEBRITY THAN TO PROMINENT DEMOCRATS
The pizza company uploaded a short video in which uniformed Domino’s employees top off a round slice of melon with raw cheese and pepperoni before throwing it in the oven.
“Nah fr when we saw @elburritomonster make a watermelon pizza, we HAD to give it a go,” Domino’s Australia wrote in its video.
While the pizza initially looked pretty good out of the oven, the chain reported that the experimental meal was “an acquired taste.”
However, some users noted that Domino’s stuck with traditional tomato sauce despite Paterson’s claim that barbecue sauce works better with watermelon.
