Virginia plan could bring redistricting online

Virginia officials plan to create a website to keep the public informed about the state’s redistricting proposals.

Virginia Statehouse News reports that the website would serve as a forum for the public to comment on specific areas of proposed redistricting maps. Lawmakers could then take the feedback into consideration before submitting the redrawn congressional districts to the Justice Department for approval.

The Joint Reapportionment Committee is creating the website, which is expected to be up and running in January or February. Virginia lawmakers have only a few month to redraw the districts before the summer primary elections.
