From the cubicle to queues: Macy’s offers holiday retail slots to corporate employees

Macy’s corporate employees are reportedly being offered the option to work retail over the holiday season.

The company, amid essentially a post-pandemic holiday shopping season, told its office workers they would have the opportunity to help “elevate the customer experience.”

“As a company, we understand that business continues to be different, and where we can, we want to influence our high traffic moments, finding ways to elevate the customer experience,” Macy’s said Tuesday in an internal memo about its “Holiday All Hands-On Deck” strategy, according to a report.

Macy’s is looking to fill about 76,000 positions at Bloomingdale’s, Bluemercury, and Macy’s, the Washington Post reported. It raised its minimum wage to $15.

“During the holiday season, our stores see incredible spikes in traffic volume,” Macy’s said. “With your support, our store colleagues will be able to stay focused on elevating the customer experience — helping them check every gift off their list, and maybe a few for themselves as well.”

A store spokeswoman confirmed the corporate side of operations is seeking to help front-facing employees.

“Supporting our store colleagues is a great opportunity to build camaraderie with teammates and be a part of making the holiday shopping experience for our customers special,” said Karina Frayter in a statement. “This also gives our corporate colleagues a valuable opportunity to interact and get direct feedback from customers.”
