Michelle Obama praises ‘leader on social justice’ Alicia Keys during Billboard Music Awards

Former first lady Michelle Obama made an appearance at the Billboard Music Awards to praise singer-songwriter Alicia Keys as a “leader on social justice.”

Obama, who has long praised the artist, said Keys “has amazed us again and again in so many ways” during her taped appearance at the awards show in Los Angeles, California.

“Alicia is not just an artist. She’s also an advocate for women and families around the world, a leader on social justice, a wife, a mentor, a mother, but most of all, she is herself. … In bearing her true self, she calls us all to do the same in our own lives and for each other,” the former first lady said.
