Donald Trump will bring a lifetime of experience and preparation to the first presidential debate on Monday night, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence said hours before the highly-anticipated prime-time event.
“Make no mistake, he’s been preparing for this debate, but he’s been preparing for a lifetime,” the Republican vice presidential nominee said of Trump during a Monday radio interview on “The Mike Gallagher Show.”
“He’s going to bring a lifetime of experience, a lifetime of being a builder [and] a lifetime of really living the American Dream to that stage,” Pence added. “The American people are going to see tonight a man who literally embodies and personifies the American spirit.”
Pence also said he hopes the moderator of the debate, NBC News’ Lester Holt, focuses on America’s struggling economy during the debate and allows both candidates to outline what they will do to spur long-term job growth and foster prosperity.
Trump and Hillary Clinton will meet on the debate stage at 9 p.m. ET for a 90-minute debate that will air live from Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.
