Trump talks up economic issues after difficult third week

President Trump on Friday said a minute does not pass in which his White House is not working to create new jobs and boost wages for Americans.

“Every hour of every day, my administration is focused on creating jobs for our people and I mean good jobs, more jobs, better jobs, higher-paying jobs. That’s our mission,” Trump said during his weekly address to the nation.

Trump’s third address comes at the conclusion of a week where the legal drama surrounding his executive order halting travel from seven countries in the Middle East and North Africa saturated much of the news cycle, prompting the Trump administration to refocus the public’s attention on other recently adopted policies.

On Tuesday, Intel CEO Reed Cordish visited the White House and announced the technology company’s plans to invest $7 billion into a new manufacturing factory in Phoenix, Ariz.

“Intel decided to move forward with this project because they know we are totally committed to lifting the regulatory and tax burdens that are hurting American innovation and companies,” Trump said. “We want to make it much easier to do business in America … we wanna make it much harder for companies to leave. They’re not just going to say ‘bye bye’ and fire everybody. There will be consequences.”

The administration is in the process of working on a major tax reform that will “massively reduce” taxes on our workers and businesses, Trump added.

Trump has credited himself with negotiating deals to keep Carrier and Ford from building manufacturing plants outside the country and keep those jobs in the U.S. His goal, as stated on Friday, is to make the U.S. the “great jobs magnet of the world.”

Before ending his five-minute address, Trump touched on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals’ refusal to uphold the travel ban.

“My administration is committed to your security, which is why we will continue to fight to take all necessary and legal action to keep terrorists, radical and dangerous extremists, from ever entering our country,” Trump vowed.

“We will not allow our generous system of immigration to be turned against us as a tool for terrorism and truly bad people. We must take firm steps today to ensure that we are safe tomorrow.”

Following the taping of the pre-filmed address, Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One Friday he is considering signing a “brand new order” on immigration and refugees.

“We will win that battle. The unfortunate part is that it takes time statutorily, but we will win that battle. We also have a lot of other options, including just filing a brand new order,” Trump said.

The president, en route to Mar-a-Lago for the weekend, said his administration may be ready to announce their decision on how to proceed as early as Monday or Tuesday.
